My Pleasant Police Encounter

This morning I left my house in my usual mood, ready to take on the world (ye, right... we all know I was sleepy as heck and still a bit groggy). So when I stumbled upon a huge police operation a stone's throw from my gate, I was less than pleased. Of course driving the "police magnet" (a Toyota Corolla) they stopped me.  The look on the police man's face was pretty pleasant, not the usual screw face. He asked me whose vehicle it was, asked for the papers for the car, asked to see in the trunk and then asked for my driver's license.

From Nothing to SOMETHING

T hat strange gap between leaving school and finding a job is an awkward place to be. So many things running through your head as you live day by day unemployed; hunting, searching, hoping for that one break. Nobody wants to start at the bottom. Nobody would choose to start at the bottom. But we don't have a choice when we humble ourselves and apply for those jobs, selling ourselves like prostitutes - or more appropriately - field slaves; Showcasing our best qualities like we're up for sale... and we are. We want our future employers to buy into the ideas that we have created with our resume and cover letter.

Cheating: The Man vs The Woman

For years men and women have been trying to find out why each other cheat. Let me paint a quick picture: Alia and Davion have been together for two years. They do everything together, and they love each other deeply. Their marital status on Facebook is "married" and they enjoy each other's company so much so that the frequency of their PDA (public display(s) of affection) annoys their friends. One fateful day Alia admitted that she cheated on Davion. Davion also had a secret, he had cheated on Alia.

What else does Jamaica have to offer really?

All my life I feel like my country has been for sale. We're always doing what other people [outsiders] want us to do, so that we can attract these same outsiders [now in the form of tourists] so that they may BUY into whatever we have for SALE and as such the country benefits with revenue. There has never really been a trade system, no such thing as bartering really... as much as it hurts me to say this, it's like the slave trade; Or perhaps the "amelioration" period before slavery was abolished in the Caribbean - where they committed to treating the slaves better but they were still enslaved - they were still the property of their slave masters and were still to carry out the tasks given... they were still not free.

Tips for Life

I was showering at 12am today and the idea hit me to do a blog post entitled (see above). I am really nowhere near the age of a wise man; a man whose knowledge and years of experience provides advice that is always applicable. However, I'm going to attempt my TIPS FOR LIFE [so far]... and don't forget to leave feedback. TIP #1: KNOW YOURSELF

Rich Man, Poor Man, Beggar Man, Thief, Lawyer, Doctor and Police Chief

There's this game I used to play as a child which (we thought) would predict out future. We would choose the age at which we wanted to marry, and it would predict our partner, where we would live, our occupation and number of children. To make up a portion of the list we'd chant "rich man, poor man, beggar man, thief, lawyer, doctor, indian chief" then add  a few others. So much for the nostalgia.... In Jamaica the population can basically be divided into these groups (see title) . The Rich Man, and the Poor Man are the two main categories. The Beggar Man would come with the poverty, and surprisingly the Thief would come under the jurisdiction of the wealthy man (white collar crime and such... did someone say Bernie Madoff? ) . The Lawyers and Doctors are important to society and make up the middle class for their work can be easily compromised by the donations of a Rich Man; and the ever so controversial Police Chief who is a puppet to the Rich Man.

Day 7 and the Vagina Papaya

I'm tired of this fast now..... I think I have made the point to myself and my friends and fellow BB users that I can do without it... I mean, I have come three-quarters of the way I said I would (12 days), and you'd think it would make sense to just finish it, wouldn't you? BUT...
