Growing Up

Image
Don't you just love kids? This is exactly what my younger cousins would have asked me or my mother... Having a conversation with a child is unbelievably eye-opening. I dare you to try it. Now, moving on to what this post should be about... After growing up in what my parents and experts would have called the "Technology Era" (in my opinion any era would have seen technological improvements, so all this hulabaloo about the 'advancements in technology' within that period, just seems unnecessary to me..anywhooo I digress), I and perhaps others within that generation felt like they were the bees knees  ... superior to all... young forever... just awesome overall.

If you have nothing good to say... nuh seh nutn

**N.B.: For the purposes of this post the term "good" does not necessarily mean pleasing but also describes informative, relevant information. Is it so hard to keep our mouths shut? If you have nothing of substance to contribute, then just don't say anything.

The Psychology of Scamming

Image
Scamming has become a HUGE problem in Jamaica, and when I say HUGE I mean HUGE. We haven't received so much [negative] international  attention in quite some time (ye, let's not count the Dudus Saga). But when CNN and BCC do 'special' stories on scamming in the island, it may just be a problem.

One way ticket to anywhere...please

So if you haven't been watching the news, or listening to the radio, or living or breathing lately perhaps you're not aware that Jamaica is in some deep shit  I mean a whole lotta crap ... a bit of a pickle, financially. Now with all the jargon being thrown around on the news about the International Monetary Fund "deal", the National Debt Exchange (NDX...almost sounds like the next pop sensation Diddy will discover and then destroy doesn't it?), another national tax reform and Portia consciously letting us know that we (not the collective "we" which will include parliament, the "you the people" kind of "we") have to tighten our belts AGAIN...

The dilemma of the disabled: Out of sight, out of mind

How many buildings in Jamaica are wheel chair accessible? How many intersections allow for the passage of blind pedestrians? Are the sidewalks kept in good condition to facilitate wheel chairs, blind and other disabled persons?

50 shades of sex, fantasy and then a baby

Marry Christmas and Happy New Year !!! (I said Happy New Year to someone yesterday and they informed me that the year is now too old to continue using that greeting... but HAPPY NEW YEAR anyway ) I hope everyone's holiday season was wonderful :) ... Now sometime ago I promised that I would review the 50 shades of Grey trilogy, and although it took me quite some time to read the three books in between work, school and a genuine disinterest, I was done in enough time to have published the post long before the end of last year, I guess a bit of laziness and not knowing where to start took over... But anyway here goes...

Published in UN Magazine

Image
I was idly "googling" myself and realized that an article I had written for the UN Chronicle magazine two years ago, for a competition, was actually published although I did not win the contest. CLICK HERE    to see the article in all its glory... I am so happy I could burst lol, I have also copied and pasted the contents here ... Happy reading...
