I bet you think you know what this post is about....
So I didn't make a Christmas post, so it must be about that right?
On the other hand I didn't make a new Year's Eve post, and it is New Year's Day so it could also be about that....
As well as, it could be a completely random post, because enough people saturate us with posts on 'special' days.
Let's go with that last one, shall we?
Let's talk about the future....That just came to my head, let's see how much I can write on it and how much you'll read :D
The future is that "x" factor in an equation... It is the unknown, sometimes feared period of time that has not come yet, and that is not guaranteed to come.
Then why are people so preoccupied with the future?
Well, thinking of a positive future, or being able to expect some sort of betterment is an escape from any bad situation you may be going through.
[[very trivial example: when I am braiding my hair, it takes a few hours and to have one or sometimes up to three persons in your hair can be annoying, but if I think about the end result I can bear the pain and discomfort..because of the future ... the end result]]
The future is also a big issue for those who are expecting something, for example: graduating, a child, a marriage, the arrival of a loved one... You have something big to look forward to, so the future is of utmost importance.
For whatever reason the future is important to all of us, even for those who support the view that we should not be preoccupied with the future because we should focus on the present. All that we do in the present will, in some way, affect our future, right? Live each day as if it's your last, and suppose it isn't? Then there is the future that they said you shouldn't be preoccupied with.
The measurement of the future has also been a concern. Quite a few people will tell you they aren't talking about tomorrow when they say "the future"... What time period are the referring to then? "Later on, like about 10 years" that's what some will say, some may say 20 years, 5 years, the end of college, etc... I take the future to be any time that is not the present, even 2 minutes, or 4 hours from now is the future, to me at least.
The future isn't like a hurricane, you don't know what to expect or how adequately to prepare. Having an open mind and having a pleasant demeanor is usually preparation enough. Stop being that stuck up "head in ass" person and take a minute to appreciate something other than what you are used to and to mingle with people who are not in your social class (above or below, preferably both). Simply understanding your environment and being able to adjust to different situations (other than the ones in which you find comfort)is what will ensure a manageable future.
Nobody knows what the future holds, no matter how we conjure up things in our heads. No matter how perfectly we've planned our careers, our weddings, our children, our lives in our heads there is absolutely no guarantee that that is how they will turn out.
It doesn't mean you should be depressed about it, of course there may be some disappointment, but don't allow your sullen mood to ruin everything. Having a positive character in the face of adversity can sometimes turn around your situation.
Also, try not to be OBSESSED with the future. I was watching a movie once and this girl had planned out her wedding to the point where she had an album in which she had a picture of herself and her dress of choice was cut out from a magazine and pasted to her body. There was a picture of what she wanted the groom to look like and she had pictures of the food, cake, centre pieces and other details of the wedding. That could be bordering on paranoia, don't get so obsessed and asphyxiated with the future, allow some elements to surprise you.
Don't be a control freak :P
