50 shades of sex, fantasy and then a baby

Marry Christmas and Happy New Year !!!

(I said Happy New Year to someone yesterday and they informed me that the year is now too old to continue using that greeting... but HAPPY NEW YEAR anyway )

I hope everyone's holiday season was wonderful :)

... Now sometime ago I promised that I would review the 50 shades of Grey trilogy, and although it took me quite some time to read the three books in between work, school and a genuine disinterest, I was done in enough time to have published the post long before the end of last year, I guess a bit of laziness and not knowing where to start took over... But anyway here goes...

BOOK REVIEW : 50 Shades of Grey trilogy  (50 shades of Grey, 50 shades DARKER, 50 shades FREED)  by E.L. James

Main Characters: Christian Grey (young, successful  businessman); Anastasia Steele (Grey's love interest)

I'm going to be honest the only reason I read the series was because everyone was talking about it and I wanted to see if there was any truth to the "awesomeness" of this book. Since, we are in hard financial times and Jamaica has been called the "Greece of the Western hemisphere", I was not going to spend my money on a book I really didn't want anyway. So I went online and searched Google for "50 shades of grey free download" and on the first click a pdf  file was downloaded to my tablet and I was thinking for sure it was just some promotional crap because it COULD NEVER BE THAT EASY TO DOWNLOAD A FREE COPY OF A BOOK THAT HAS BEEN REGARDED A BEST SELLER ... but it was.

I was still baffled, I could not believe it was that easy to obtain a copy of this "hot commodity", anyway I started reading the first book, at that time I was not aware that there were two other books to be read.
I enjoyed the first few pages, I liked how she started the story... The story line was a bit different, but the grammatical errors really threw me for a loop. I don't understand how she could be thanking her husband in the acknowledgements, for helping her edit and the book (all three of them, but the first one especially) was overrun with grammatical errors? The publishing company didn't read it? No? SMH...

Perhaps only cynical, iron libido women (and men) even noticed the grammatical errors, everyone else was so engrossed with the sex-filled, fantasy life pages that they didn't even realize that it is not okay to say: "This is the only relationship I am INTERESTING in", "I have never FITTED in anywhere" and not to mention the typographical errors.

Anyway, so I'm reading through and it almost seems like the all American movie: college student, working in a near-by store for extra cash, drives a beat up car, she's unassumingly sexy... yada yada... But there were little notes that made it interesting; The crazy mother, the relationship with her step father, the journalist friend and perhaps included just because a minority group had to be in the novel - the close friend (Jose) who is secretly in love with her (I think he's Mexican, Spanish or could it be Hispanic ?... ).

It gets a little cliche` when Grey (the successful businessman) wants her and everyone is like okay we've seen this in every romance novel before... but then the BDSM shit jumps out of nowhere ! BDSM stands for Bondage, Discipline, Sadism and Masochism, basically means you're into freaky shit like being tied up and beaten (spanked rather, so it doesn't sound so harsh) during sex, it may get a little more intense than that but that's just a simple definition.

All in all the story line is something we haven't seen before and that's what actually got me interested in what I considered "crap", but then there was so much sex, half the book was pretty much a porno; but I kept reading because the more they had sex, the more we find out about the "mysterious" Mr. Grey. I wasn't a fan of all the sexed up pages, but sometimes I did take a few notes (just in case ;) ).

On completion of book one, I wondered how the hell E.L. James managed to drag this on for two more books, how lonely is her marriage really for her to be thinking up three books of LONE SEX... Not sure why I was so angry with the book lol... Perhaps it was because it was not what I expected... anyway I continued reading...

My favourite book would have to be book two : DARKER, because we were officially introduced to the real Christian Grey, not the money-making, eligible bachelor, but the little boy who grew up in Detroit before being adopted by an affluent family. Knowing about his past was really how she sucked me in, I just wanted to know more about this troubled man. Also, we realized that he had a softer side and was capable of love and even marriage (after knowing her for such a sort time ... so cliche`). However the twist at the end of book two -  the person who was spying on their family gathering was genius (so you HAVE to get the third book or else curiosity would kill you, like it killed that poor cat)... This lady (the author) knows how to suck people into crap LOL.

Book three was by far the most anti-climatic except for some drama with Jack (her former employer) and her being pregnant, there wasn't much there for me... Perhaps it was a bit shocking that Grey ended up being so enraptured by children that he wanted more.

Overall I would say the trilogy was FAIR, the story line was new and interesting, but it lost cool points for me because there was just so much sex, perhaps I didn't realize it was suppose to be that kind of book and then it took me by surprise. There is also a little drama in there with an ex-submissive so it's a good read for those persons who love Romance novels with a twist... for those who abhor them stay away, far far away.

P.S: I didn't get into too much details because I didn't want to spoil it for those persons who have not already had an opportunity to read it.
