OCTOBER DOUBLE FEATURE: The Checklist

I thought of skipping this month's blog post. October has been such an emotional month for my family and I, and I wasn't sure how I would manage to sift through all the heartache and tears to produce anything worth reading.

So for the first time in a long time I've written two blog posts this month. It's the October Double Feature. Please read the other post also and listen to the upcoming podcast episode which will feature discussions on both.

Earlier this year you would recall that we (really I, but “we” sounds so much better) dubbed this year Let's Glow.  It's the 10th month of the year,  2018 is 80% complete and I saw it fit to do a check in to see where we are, what we've accomplished and how we can push through in just 2 months.

This Glow-Up is about the recognition of self and a consciousness of self that supersedes all. Knowing who you are in this moment; what you need to get through this situation and how to achieve your goals.

The Let's Glow check-in checklist has 4 categories : 1) the Complete you; 2) Self-care and wellness 3) Physical Health; and  4) Relationships.

I've come up with a short list and a more comprehensive set of questions.

The Complete You:

❐  Do you have a morning routine?

❐  Do you have an evening routine?

❐ .Do you have a plan to manage your emotional needs?

❐  Do you make time for "down time"?

❐  Have you been keeping track of your goals?

Self-Care and Wellness:

❐  Do you have a self-care routine?

❐  Do you "check-in" with yourself (emotionally) at least once a week?

❐  Do you set self-care goals?

Physical Health:

❐  Have you taken steps to improve your physical health?

❐  Do you schedule routine check-ups (like a visit to the dentist)?

Relationships:

❐  Have you done an assessment of your relationships?

❐  Do your current relationships edify your "spirit"?

❐  Are you a good friend?

❐  Do you have good friends?

Below are the more comprehensive questions.

The Complete You:

What have you learned about yourself in the past few months?

How has this shaped your interactions?

How do you react to bad news?

How does this affect the rest of your day?

How do you react to good news?

Where are you on the path to s consciousness of self?

Are there any barriers?

How can you overcome them?

Have you been able to maintain an open mind, even in difficult situations?

Do you listen to understand or do you listen to respond?

Self-Care and Wellness:

Do you “listen” to your body?

What steps have you taken towards a self-care routine?

How would you define mental wellness?

Is your mental wellness a priority?
  • Why?

What do you do, at least once a week, that's just for you?

What makes you happy?
  • Why?

Physical Health:

Are you managing your physical health?

Do you have barriers to managing your health?

Have you set any personal health goals?

What does a healthy you look like?

What does a healthy you feel like?

Have you taken steps to improve your physical health (In order to achieve “a healthy you”)?

Relationships:

Would you consider your current relationships (including friendships and familial relations) “healthy”?

Do you consider yourself a good friend?

Do you have good friends?

What is your idea of a good friend?

Are your current relationships edifying?

Have they contributed in positive ways to your overall wellbeing?

Do you know when to let go?

The Glow Up process may take more than the remaining two months of 2018, but all of us are works in progress anyway.
